America’s First County Park System In-Person
America’s First County Park System
2022 marked the 100th anniversary of the first county park system in America. In 1922 the Westchester Parks Commission was incorporated, pioneering the establishment of an extensive network of open space, nature preserves oases, roadways through scenic areas, and abundant opportunities for recreation. Beginning with the Bronx River Parkway Commission, to the amassing of thousands of acres of property, this 60-minute digital slide presentation reveals the early story of Westchester’s extraordinary park system and the visionaries who made it possible. Presented by Barbara Davis, Co-Director of the Westchester County Historical Society and member of the Historic Preservation Advisory Committee for the County of Westchester.
